Pinch Clay Snowman
Description: This lesson was taught by Izzy Sanchez. First she taught the class about different types of clay and how to work with them. Then she introduced pinch clay and the activity that we did with it. Throughout the lesson, Izzy talked about famous artists who work with pinch clay and the characteristics about it. We were given a chunk of air dry clay and we were taught step by step what to do in order to end up with our final product which was a snowman. First we made out clay into a round ball, then split it into two. We then made two more round balls with the part we split to end up with three total balls. We created them into a bowl shape and connected them together by making hash marks in the clay and using water to bind them together. We used different tools to fuse the clay together so the three bowl shapes would hold in a shape of a snowman. After we created out shape, we painted them white like a snowman!
Extension Activity: An extension activity I would use with pinch clay would be based off a science lesson. I would teach the students about different habits and the animals that live within those habitats. I would show the students the pinch clay technique like Izzy did, and the students can create their favorite animal and state what habitat it lives in.
