Magazine Adjectives
Description: This activity was taught by Brookelyn Beyers, and she presented a lesson on adjectives. For this lesson, first she went over famous artists who are known for their magazine style work. After we learned about the different artists, she went into her lesson on adjectives. Brookelyn gave us examples of what they are and used showed a picture of different characters and used adjectives to describe them. Next, we listed five adjectives on a notecard that describes ourselves; she had a list of different adjectives on the board in case we needed more ideas. We shared with the class what our favorite adjective about ourself was. We started out project by cutting a circular cut out with a guide to help us know where to cut a hole for our face. Then we were able to look through magazine cutouts that had letters of our name and the adjectives we used to describe ourself with. We spent time cutting and gluing our letters onto our construction paper. The directions were that we had to have our name on it, along with at least 3 adjectives. If students got done early, there were able to add a hairdo as well.
Extension Activity: An extension activity that I could do with this is for a science lesson. The students could learn about the different seasons and then on a piece of paper they would cut out letters of the 4 seasons and glue them down as their headings. Then, I would have magazine cutouts that students would be able to find different characteristics of the different seasons and glue them down under the correct heading. This would be a chance for students to categorize the different characteristics of each season.
