Hidden Animal
Description: For this activity, we got to pick an animal from the jungle that was laid out on the table. For an introduction, we looked at different pictures of the jungle and talked about what we saw and how we knew that it was a jungle. We had to make special sunglasses with red film in order to see our final project. Next we had to draw the animal that we chose, and had to draw it upside down with a light blue colored pencil. We learned that drawing it upside down helps you not focus on the overall picture and more on the space, lines, size, and where things should line up. After our picture was drawn, we colored over the blue drawing with warm color crayons and created a mixture of 3-4 different patterns that were consistent over the page. We did this so you could no longer see the blue drawing. On a piece of paper, we wrote down 3 hints about our animal and glued it on the frame that we also glued our picture on.
Extension Activity: An extension activity that I could do is creating math facts to do with a partner. The students would write math facts all over their paper in their light blue colored pencil such as 4x2, 6x3, 8,6 and color over it with warm colors just like we did in class. Then students would be able to pair up, and with their glasses they could go through the math problems and say the question and answer out-loud to their partner.
